Directed by Wolfgang Becker (Good Bye, Lenin!) and co-written by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), this urban comedy has as its backdrop the transitional Berlin of the 90s. Jan Nebel, a slacker of a slaughterhouse worker, stumbles through a series of misadventures as he tries to survive his everyday life. Das Leben Ist Eine Baustelle was a prize winner at several major festivals in its native Germany, including a special award at the 1997 Berlin International Film Festival “for the humorous and ironic portrayal of the changes taking place in present-day Berlin.”
