WHAT: Brian Dewan and Mark Newgarden
WHEN: Fri 6.20 (7:30pm)
WHERE: Pierogi (177 N 9th St, Williamsburg, 718.599.2144)
Triple-threat Brian Dewan (artist, instrumentalist, and
songster) has constructed a make-believe schoolroom for
old-time screenings of his hand-tinted I-CAN-SEE film strips
(a kind of sequenced slide show of drawings). To complete
the classroom theme, Dewan organizes evening events such as
story hour, poetry corner, musical demonstrations, and
screenings of old educational films from the eclectic
collection of cartoonist Mark Newgarden. Tonight we’re
treated to The Making of Rubber, The Life of George
Washington, How to Make a Stetson Hat, and other silent
shorts ? all to the live musical accompaniment of Pamelia
Kurstin on theremin and Jonathan Rosen on singing saw, as
Dewan plays an 8-track cartridge organ. Bring your own
refreshments and grab a pint-sized seat for the fun. (PL)
