Last week Eastman Kodak Co. announced that they will stop producing slide
projectors within the year. So, there couldn’t be a better time for Slide
Circle Seminars, a series of six Wednesday evenings which will offer a forum
for discussion about the slide show as a medium of presentation, persuasion
and production (and great aesthetic possibility).
The Slide Circle Seminars are a series of 6 consecutive Wednesday evenings
organized by Paige Sarlin, a graduate student at SAIC, ABOUT the SLIDE SHOW.
Not just a series of slide talks, these seminars will offer a forum in which
to think and talk about many aspects of the “presentation with visual aids.”
Each night will feature an example of a given genre and a discussion of the
formal as well as conceptual implications of the choices made by the
presenter. The first evening on Wednesday October 1st will be held at the
1926 Exhibition Studies Space at 1926 North Halsted from 7 to 10pm.
The topic of the first seminar is the Travel Genre: “Where I Went Last
Summer.” This evening will feature a slide presentation by Simon Anderson
about his 2002 trip to visit the Earthworks in the American West (from
Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty to Walter de Maria’s Lightning Field).
Following this performance, there will be an open carousel; guests are
invited to bring travel slides to present (no more than 10, please). Popcorn
will be served.
