[Los Angeles] Temporary Services in LA

Topic(s): Announcement | No Comments

Date/Time: 24/04/2005 12:00 am

At the invitation of the Outpost for Contemporary Art
(http://www.outpost-art.org/), and with the help of trusted collaborators Rob Kelly and Zena Sakowski, we will execute an outdoor project on an empty lot in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park.
„Construction Site‰ is a socially interactive environment that will develop spontaneously and collaboratively in the neighborhood for two weeks. Working with volunteers, friends, students, and passersby, we will create structures largely from cast off materials scavenged from alleys and dumpsters. The site will be transformed into an outdoor arena for discussions, film screenings, meals, and other events.
Lots of people are coming forward and helping already. The generosity of people in Los Angeles has been astounding (rumor has it that even the corpse of actor Ronald Reagan helped fold several of our booklets).
The empty lot is magnificent and we are calling for you and everyone you know in Los Angeles to help us turn this barren spot into a magical oasis of stimulating wonder. Bring tools, old furniture and paint you want to get rid of, cooking utensils, spare rolls of toilet paper, beer, shrimp burritos or whatever else might help this endeavor achieve lift off.
Or just bring yourself and perhaps your kids and your pets. If you are a local publisher or person that has made a ‘zine, a poster or a book – bring ‘em! We’ll be making a reading library and when the project closes these donations will help form Outpost’s future reading resource collection. You can also get free copies of new Temporary Services publications at the site while supplies last.
