Cabinet magazine, in collaboration with Queens Museum of Art and White Columns, presents a two-part exhibition entitled “Odd Lots: Revisiting Gordon Matta-Clark’s Fake Estates.”
“Odd Lots” examines the legacy of Gordon Matta-Clark through the history of his important project Fake Estates (1973-4) for which he purchased 15 unusable slivers of land in the boroughs of Queens and Staten Island. With 19 participating artists ranging from Matta-Clark’s contemporaries to emerging practitioners, “Odd Lots” seeks to extend the legacy of an “artist’s artist” whose dovetailing interests in architecture, sculpture, and performance have inspired creative producers in a variety of disciplines. The exhibition will simultaneously take place at two different venues, White Columns and the Queens Museum, and include a series of bus tours to four Fake Estates sites in Queens led by special guest guides. The exhibition will be accompanied by a 96-page book distributed worldwide by D.A.P. (for more information or to purchase, visit Cabinet at http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/shop/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=104).
