Dear Children in Activist Exhaustion:
The Stop Shopping Gospel Choir and myself welcome you to our Strange Worship on Wednesday the 23rd, St. Mark’s Church, 8:30. While we are praying on our knees with you — our hands will be in your pockets, rummaging for a twenty.
Yes, your gift of $20 flies our 30-voice choir to Reno, trucks us to Burning Man City, and shelters us on the Black Rock Desert. We have been invited to sing and preach on the Broadway stage they’ve notched in the side of The Great Temple under The Man. If you are a supporter of one of the groups that we’ve helped with comic blessings or songs over the years — will you let us cash in some karma?
We are moving out into this larger thing that surrounds us, called the United States, it’s a whole continent of violent naiveté`. And there are here and there pockets of exhausted activists who are asking for the joyous and hope-itching
words of our post-religious church.
Change-a-lujah!
