TRADE 1> TRAFFICKING IDEAS
Two hours of uncertainty, including a sleight of hands, fortune cookies, a letter to Jan Mot, a photocopy, and a telephone call. This program, co-organized with artist Alejandro Cesarco, will situate some of the ideas and key strategies involved in trafficking conceptualism, focusing on the various ways to document the existence of an artwork. Cesarco was selected to develop a new artwork as part of Art in General’s new commissions program. His project, Marguerite Duras’ India Song, opens on January 14, 2006.
Trade I > Trafficking Ideas is the first of a series of public programs that use the concept of trade as a lens to discover complex processes of cultural exchange and artistic production. These programs will explore how investment, value, and subjectivity are constantly re-contextualized and negotiated in the making and experiencing of art.
