Discussion with Persheng Vaziri
This documentary about five ordinary Iranian women between the ages of 23 and 41, provides intimate portrayals as we get to understand the variety of experiences of women in Iran, against the backdrop of Islam, revolution and war. The five women are: a nurse, a journalist, a rice farmer, a religious college graduate, and a piano teacher. After living for 20 years in the U.S., the filmmaker moves back to Iran and explores the lives of women there. Each segment displays the women in their home or work environments, and in the activities that define their lives. Some of the same questions are asked of all of them, such as what they think of the situation of women in Iran, what they think of the veil, or what their hopes and goals are.
