Presentation and Discussion with The Yes Men – Tuesday Nov. 14th, 7:30pm
The Change You Want to See Gallery presents Andy Bichlbaum
Andy Bichlbaum from the The Yes Men will present recent work including an
intervention at a “Housing Summit” in New Orleans on August 28, 2006 where
he took the stage along with New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Louisiana
Governor Kathleen Blanco, as well as a new project that will occur at an
undisclosed location on the weekend of the 11th-12th of November.
The Yes Men are a group of culture jamming activists who practice what
they call “identity correction”. They pretend to be powerful people and
spokespersons for prominent organizations, accepting invitations received
on their websites to appear at symposiums and TV shows. They use their
newfound authority to express the idea that corporations and governmental
organizations often act in dehumanizing ways toward the public. Elaborate
props are sometimes part of the ruse.
