Curators and Artists To Discuss Their Visionary Approaches to Ephemeral Art
With panelists:
Chrissie Iles , Curator of Film and Video, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York
Joan Jonas, video, performance, installation artist.
Robert Storr , Institute of Fine Arts, New York University
Hans Ulrich Obrist, Curator , Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (video interview)
In conjunction with the New York University Department of Art and Art Professions, PERFORMA presents Not for Sale , an evening of presentations and discussions on the exhibition, conservation, and collection of ephemeral artwork.

Performance, video, site-specific installations, and a broad range of new media raise critical questions about the conservation and collection of ephemeral artwork. How does the new museum of the 21st century preserve such works? How can the radical propositions that often motivated these artists be represented in a museum context? A distinguished panel of museum curators will describe their visionary approaches to harnessing the energy of these seemingly immaterial materials. Not for Sale is the first in a series of dynamic symposia that will address aspects of performance-related visual art.
