Curators and Artists To Discuss Their Visionary Approaches to Ephemeral Art

In conjunction with the New York University Department of Art and Art Professions, PERFORMA presents Not for Sale , an evening of presentations and discussions on the exhibition, conservation, and collection of ephemeral artwork.
 
Performance, video, site-specific installations, and a broad range of new media raise critical questions about the conservation and collection of ephemeral artwork. How does the new museum of the 21st century preserve such works? How can the radical propositions that often motivated these artists be represented in a museum context? A distinguished panel of museum curators will describe their visionary approaches to harnessing the energy of these seemingly immaterial materials. Not for Sale is the first in a series of dynamic symposia that will address aspects of performance-related visual art.

RoseLee Goldberg , Founding Director and Curator, is an art historian, critic and curator who pioneered the study of performance art with her seminal book Performance Art from Futurism to the Present. A former curator at the Kitchen in New York, Ms. Goldberg, Associate Adj, Professor of Contemporary Art, has taught at New York University since 1987.
