1. About this Tuesday
You are cordially invited to a presentation/discussion with Vilma Sileikiene, Beatriz Santiago, ir Kristina Inciuraite. The evening begins at 7:00, but people are invited to come at 6:30, so that we can begin on time.
A little about the context: this Fall in New York, 16Beaver will be organizing an as of now, Untitled and possible unannounced series with women within the cultural field. Rather than wait to formulate all the questions and the right title, we will begin this more like a research project.
So with the idea of process and research as central to the series, it seems like a nice idea to begin the series here in Vilnius as a part of 24/7.

3. Some info on Vilma Sileikiene
VILMA SILEIKIENE received her MFA from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Department of Photography and Media art. She has recently exhibited at IBID projects in Vilnius, The Biennial for Young Art in Hamburg and “Self Esteem – Lithuanian Artists 01” at the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius.
Sileikiene works in the sphere of photography, video art, installation, action, recycling from different materials. She writes, “I like circumstances when I can react spontaneously into new situations, new places, new events. the important thing for me is daily life and the process of socialization.”

In her most recent work “Young, gifted artist looking for a job” (Mixed technique) at IBID projects, ?ileikien? sat at a table in the gallery waiting for job offers. The invitation card for the exhibition acted as an invitation and short introduction for prospective employers. It also served as an invitation to think over the role of a modern gallery and its transformations in the art structure: is it still the place just exhibiting art pieces, or is it some sort of a transitional stage necessary for a career seeking artist?

4. Some info on Kristina In?i?rait?
I am trying to search and analyze features of female identity and
social/psychological circumstances that made influence on her identities.
Contemporary woman is widely presented in society like “an object of
desire”. I criticize such standing stereotype of scopofilic gaze. I present
a woman like invisible, but very active participator in concrete situation.
We can’t see, but can hear her. For instance, the videos featuring quite
static, minimal or even frozen images, however the female voice reveals
dynamic stories and breaks frozen images. She talks about daily life, hidden
and unrealized dreams or nostalgic memories. Thus I don’t eliminate female
identity, but contrary – accentuate it through verbal representation.
***
Bandau ieškoti ir analizuoti šiuolaikin?s moters identiteto bruožus bei
socialines/psichologines aplinkybes, ?takojusias jos identitet?.
Visuomen?je, moters ?vaizdžiai pla?iai reprezentuojami kaip geismo objektai.
Kritikuodama nusistov?jus? skopofilin?s ži?ros stereotip?, savo projektuose
pristatau moter?, kuri n?ra matoma, bet aktyviai dalyvauja konkre?ioje
situacijoje. Pavydžiui, video filmuose ji nematoma, bet girdima. Gana
For 24/7
Close Listening to Art
Until now, the Contemporary Art Centre has not utilized audio guides. Hence I decided to test their effect on the CAC visitors, to have their more interactive communication with art.
I suggested that Linara Dovydaityt?, a guide at the CAC, record her own subjective/ cognitive reflections on the works displayed at the exhibition. The audio-player would be then used as an audio guide by one of the CAC visitors during the 24/7 exhibition on October. The headphones would be emitting rather intimate personal reflections, while at the same time Linara would be acting as a guide for the other CAC visitors, telling them the most objective, press-release type of information.
This would help to call into question the categories of objective vs. subjective perception and evaluation of art, public vs. private relation in the Lithuanian art sphere. As I am presently interested in the female psycho-sociological discourses, I would see Linara’s telling as a verbal representation of her as a female. Close listening to a woman, as well as to art.

She received her MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and since then has been involved in various social, online, video based and curatorial projects. 6. About the Untitled/Unannounced Women’s Series:
The Unnanounced Women’s Series is still untitled and still not quite announced, but Vilnius presents an interesting opportunity to begin to present a series of artist presentations and other related events that will feature the work women or related matters. The series is more of a research project than it is a thematic title. It is interested in bringing different women together and to ask within their work or practice how gender functions, if it functions at all, if it continues to be pertinent in their work, how so, … . This is an incomplete and unedited set of thoughts on the series, but it is better to begin something like a research project with out an idea of the exact destination.
