1. Introduction
What: Discussion and Meeting with Alexandros Papas
When: October 27th at 5:30pm
Where: 16 Beaver Street, 4th Floor
Who: Free and Open to All
Last year, in the euphoria of the occupation of Wall Street, already by
that same time, the inertia of the struggles in Chile, Yemen, Bahrain,
Spain, Syria, Greece, Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere had turned in different
directions. State oppression had increased and taken on new forms: the
movements or conflicts over the occupation and reuse of (what was formerly
referred to as) public space ebbed and flowed taking on new patterns
adapting to the shifting conditions.
Those conditions included not only heightened police violence and
legal/extra-legal measures, but also the energetic field of those involved
in the struggle, failures in the politics of small group, the inability to
maintain the desiring energy in the midst of processes of
bureaucratization, and the diminishing conditions of everyday life, the
consequences of everyday structural adjustments imposed over 30 plus years
of neoliberalism, which tugs the multitudes back into a recurrent
atomization and collective picnolepsy or narcolepsy.
On Saturday October 27th at 5:30 please join us at 16 Beaver in an open
discussion with Alexandros Papas, a participant in the Autonomous Assembly
of Zografou, from Athens Greece.
The intention of this gathering is to open up a space for a discussion to
emerge and build off of Friday’s (more ‘formal’) event at CUNY entitled:
Pulling the Emergency Brake: The New Global Movements and ‘Now Time’.
Other friends from various struggles will also be joining us for the
evening.
It may be a context to further share experiences and thoughts about our
various global struggles and movements – potential lessons, directions,
current impasses, lines of convergence and cross-pollinations.
