Monday Night — Memorial for Hassan Hourani

Comments Off on Monday Night — Memorial for Hassan Hourani

This week’s scheduled reading/discussion of Agamben has been postponed until monday the 18th due to the death of Hassan Hourani.
Hassan, as some of you may know was a poet, writer, and gifted artist who since May of 2001 had moved to New York from Occupied Palestine. He was also a part of the larger community of 16Beaver.
He had most recently moved back to Ramallah and was working on finishing a childrens’ book project. We never had the chance of inviting Hassan to discuss his work as we had often talked about.
Sadly, this Monday will serve as a day to remember Hassan and to mourn the loss of a truly special person … for those who met and knew his charisma, charm, and tremendous joy and for others who did not yet have the chance to.
Ahmed and Emily have organized a night of rememberance, anyone who knew him and/or would like to spend time with some other friends on this night are welcome to join.
please read the following note:
Dear all:
I have just had a long conversation with Emily and we have decided to host an evening to mourn the loss of our friend Hassan Hourani. We will all meet at my house at 7 P.M., Monday night. Please bring pictures, tapes, memories, stories that we can all share. In part, we want to collect these items as a token to his family, memorializing Hassan’s life in New York, a life many of them were unfamiliar with.
My address is:
